Lowes continuing to learn

Sam Lowes continued his maturation in the Moto2 class at Le Mans with the Englishman finishing fourth after another solid weekend that saw him make plenty of progress. Lowes, the 2013 World Supersport champion, spoke with MCN on Sunday about the challenges that he is facing this year as he is now learning so much more compared to last year.

Lowes summed up his weekend in France and gave an insight into the challenges that he is facing as he gets used to running at the front of the competitive intermediate class. On Sunday he was left to rue a decision to run the softer tyre when he felt with hindsight he should have stuck with the harder compound tyre.

“This was another solid weekend,” said Lowes. ” We made a mistake with the tyre but it’s hard for me because this is my first year actually being competitive in this class, last year I wasn’t close to these guys, so I’m learning so much this year. Obviously I’d like to go to Mugello and win but we need to keep learning and improving.

“I don’t believe that the Kalex is a better bike than ours but because they have so many riders they can develop the bike easier. When you have only a couple of riders like us it’s impossible to gather the same data as them and they can get it dialled in for the first session. We’re a bit behind in those terms but we’ve a test at Aragon after Mugello and we’ve a lot to try. There’s a lot that we want to try but you can’t do that at a race weekend.”

With a win, a pole position and another podium Lowes has been able to prove his speed and with another incident free weekend he was able to also make another statement a lot of his doubters by avoiding crashing for a third consecutive race weekend. With a test planned next month at Aragon he feels that he is very close to making another step forward and understanding his bike better for the summer races.
