Lowes looking strong for the race after qualifying second

Amazingly in Moto2 qualifying both Alex Rins and Sam Lowes set the exact same time in the 40 minute session this afternoon at Le Mans. By virtue of having a faster second fastest time Rins was awarded the first pole position of his intermediate class career ahead of Lowes but the Englishman was in high spirits about his chances for tomorrow.

Speaking with MCN Lowes was in typically jovial form and is looking forward to tomorrow’s race where he’ll aim to get his title bid back on track after struggling at Jerez with tyre problems. Having had no rear grip at all during the Spanish race Lowes has taken steps to avoid a repeat of those problems and scrubbed in a set of soft and hard tyres this morning.

“I’ve been told that there won’t be any problems with the tyres but I wanted to make sure and scrub in a set of tyres. With the Dunlops being so strong at the end of the race there’s no real risk of losing performance so I was happy to scrub in a set.”

As has been his habit throughout his Moto2 career Lowes has spent his time working on race setup and he’s very confident of being in the fight at the front during tomorrow’s 26 lap race.

“I think that Rabat and Zarco are going to be very strong and Rins is always quick and smart so he’ll be in the fight too but someone like Salom, Nakagami or Luthi could be able to fight too because they’ve been fast this weekend.”
