Lausitzring World Superbikes: Troy Bayliss bounces back to go fastest at Lausitzring

Current Lausitzring lap record holder Troy Bayliss got his weekend off to a good start by topping the time sheets in the opening Superbike free practice session.  

The reigning World Superbike champion, who had a nightmare weekend at Brands Hatch last time out, knows he has nothing to lose in Germany and came out all guns blazing to post a 1m39.452sec at the end of his 16-lap stint.

Current championship leader Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s James Toseland took second spot less than 2/10th behind with his closest championship rival in the form of Yamaha’s Noriyuki Haga in third.

Yamaha man Troy Corser set the pace early on but dropped to fourth at the end of the session with an impressive performance from fellow Aussie Karl Muggeridge in fifth.

German favourite Max Neukirchner put his local track knowledge and support to good use to claim seventh place to finish ahead of both factory Suzuki men Yukio Kagayama in ninth and Max Biaggi in 12th.

Max Biaggi and Yukio Kagayama previously tested at the circuit back in June.

Max Biaggi is traditionally a slow starter and is almost guaranteed to move up the order during this afternoon’s first qualifying session.
