Camier surprises to top free practice

Leon Camier has surprised the World Superbike paddock by topping the first free practice session at his home round at Donington Park. The MV Agusta rider finished the first of the day’s three sessions just ahead of fellow Brit Tom Sykes – with only a fraction covering the top four.

Just 0.06 covered Camier and Sykes as well as the Ducati duo of Davide Guigliano and Chaz Davies, while championship leader Jonathan Rea made it four Brits in the top five by taking fifth.

The session was the first of the day’s action, with another two free practices planned; television coverage clashes has resulted in an unusual timetable that brings free practice three forwards a day and sees tomorrow’s Superpole completed by 1pm.
