WSB: Giugliano joins Red Bull Honda for Lausitzring

Davide Giugliano will ride for the Red Bull Honda World Superbike team at the upcoming round at the Lausitzring.

The Italian will join the Ten Kate Honda squad for the German round of the series after a successful test at the circuit last week and could be set to join Stefan Bradl in the Dutch squad for the remainder of the 2017 season should things go well.

Giugliano had initially signed a deal to compete in the MCE British Superbike Championship for 2017 with the Tyco BMW team, but following a crash at Brands Hatch took significant time out from the series before parting ways with the Northern Irish outfit.

Last week’s Lausitzring test was the first time he’d ridden a bike since, but he performed well for the Honda team, impressing team bosses with his feedback on the struggling Fireblade SP2.

“I’m really happy with this opportunity to race at Lausitzring with the Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team,” he said. “After the good test we had there last week, I was hoping to get a chance to compete with them and I’m grateful to have received it. I’m back to a good level of form and cannot wait to get started. I would like to thank Honda and Ten Kate for making this happen and I will do my best to make this opportunity worthwhile for all of us.”
