Honda ST1300 Pan European (2002-current)

Had to write a review on this bike again as now i am selling this bike at a significant loss due to me having alot of problems with a 70 mph weave this happened on a number of occasions now and honda have just shrugged there sholders at this problem which just isnt good enough.This is getting a big problem for these bikes as a friend has the same problem and had to sale his bike.I wish i could just burn the bike so no one else can ride it but have to have some money back even if it is a pittance. My advice for what it is worth get a BMW.

This bike is the best machine i have owned in 14 years of motorcycling.It is super smooth and efortless to ride even at low speeds where i hardley notice the weight.Me and my partner are quite large people and the bike handles well with us both on it and i plan to go European wide on it come the summer. Have noticed getting blown arround on it on windy days being the only gripe i have with it. The screen is handy and you could read a paper at 70 mph with the screen up fully (not recomended). I love the ammount of luggage space avalible and the top box with back pad is a comfy back rest for the Mrs. Interlinked brakes are spot on and a good safety feature. Overall this bike is excellent and you notice the fine ride it gives all you need for two up touring or commuting or what ever you need.

This is my second bike, an upgrade from a ST100. The bike is fantastic and I have done 40000 miles on it touring around Europe. I ride all year round in all weather - apart from snow and ice. The only reason I am selling mine is I am due to emigrate to Canada, but I will be getting another one almost as soon as I arrive. Strengths: Speed, touring distance, comfort, solid performance and handling. Fantastic machine. Mechanically it is very strong. Loads of grunt. Handles beautifully especially in the twisty bits. Weaknesses: Finish on the front forks - the paint pealed within 6 moths of getting the bike, very soft paint work - easily scratched.

Big, comfortable, fast as you could ever need, loads of carrying capacity, economical for such a big machine and handling way better than you might expect of a 'soft tourer'. I've ground down the hero blobs on both sides and I'm no knee down racer by a long way, it just leans over with a confidence inspiring stability. A bit of a weave around tghe steering head at 90-100mph, but nothing too disconcerting, and strangly enough not every time. Brilliant engine, ABS and electric screen set off the whole package nicely. If you're after a top tourer to take just you or you and the missus vast distances in comfort and have some fun when the road gets twisty, try the Pan for size. Strengths: Engine, comfort, handling, luggage capacity, tank range. Weaknesses: Unattractive instrument binnacle, lacks a bit of character.

This bike is simply brilliant,I bought it 6 months ago and have done 6700 miles since,without any problems,yes the servicing is dear,but all good things dont come cheap.I ride all year round in all weather and the Pan makes me feel safe in the wet,i have never been overtaken on my daily commute on the A1 by any other bike in any weather. Overall the whole ownership experience has been excellent. I ride two up regularly and my wife wouldnt get on anything else,total comfort,loads of torque,low down weight,great low speed control,fantastic at over a ton with a full load all day long. i will be keeping this bike for a very very long time. Strengths: Power at any speed in any gear when needed,bags of torque. Weaknesses: Dry weight can be a problem,you need to plan before you move it manually.

This is a great follow on from the ST1100.It's a great bike once you get used to its stand still weight.It is very stable on windy days so the weight must count for something.A great bike if you like gadgets,heated grips, electric screen,trip computer,Panniers, wind deflectors, what else do you need? I would have liked the Honda radio but at £500 I will do with my MP3 player and radio. Strengths: Street prescence, Style, Comfort, Handling,Everything on it works(take note BMW)Great Brakes. Although it requires servicing every 4,000 miles.It is basicly inpecting items as opposed to changing out.so costs are fairly reasonable.Has been used througout winter without showing any real winter wear( again take note Mr BMW). Weaknesses: Soft, easily scratched paintwork.A highly "stealable" bike as it is soooo good.

Apart from the weight and the slow speed steering ( What IS wrong with the fuel injection at slow speed?), servicing cost and parts I can't fault this machine.Did the the Alps to Switzerland and right round France and what a big comfy machine.Would I buy another one? NO because I'm keeping this one! Strengths: Comfort, Good fuel consumption with big 29 Litre tank, Luggage space,reliability. Weaknesses: Slow speed steering, cost of servicing and spares. The Weight is nearly 50Kg more than the FJR.
