Vallelunga World Supersport: Brit Johnny Rea ran an immaculate race to take the win

Johnny Rea ran an immaculate race at Vallelunga to take a well deserved victory. Parkes claimed second on the podium and Laverty earned third after a hard-fought race.

As the race got underway at Vallelunga today Pitt stormed round the outside of the pack after a good start and Johnny Rea pulled into the lead, putting the Honda team mates into first and second.

For a second it looked like the top 4- Rea, Pitt, Harms and Parkes- were going to break away, but Laverty in fifth pushed hard to catch the front runners.

Pitt started to drop away from Johnny Rea, who was storming away in front, and he paid for it when Harms overtook him for second place. With 12 laps still to go Rea had already opened up a 2.3 second gap.

Laverty was getting good drive onto the straights, allowing him to pass Pitt for second place. With 9 laps to go, Laverty was riding hard but Rea looked to have opened up an insurmountable lead.

With 8 laps to go, Parkes was fighting back and moved up to second place leaving Pitt and Laverty to battle for third.

With 4 laps to go, Laverty ran wide into a bend and Pitt tried to capitalise on it by diving up the inside, but Laverty closed the gap too quickly and the two riders bashed fairings before Pitt eventually slid off the track right in front of Laverty’s front wheel. Laverty did very well to stay on.

Johnny Rea kept it together right until the end to take a very well earned victory at the Italian circuit. Parkes claimed second and Laverty, despite his scary moment with Pitt, held on for third place.
