MotoGP: Honda rookie’s eye braking improvement

New Honda MotoGP duo Andrea Dovizioso and Alex de Angelis have both admitted that confidence in braking is still their biggest issue with the new premier class world championship fast approaching.

Adapting to the significantly increased stopping power of carbon brakes is always one of the hardest challenges for 250GP graduates to master when they move to MotoGP.

And for Italian Dovizioso, it is an area where he admits leaves him far from race ready with just two more winter tests remaining before the first race in Qatar on March 9.

“My style is to be precise and it is very difficult for me to do this. If I am fighting with other riders I can’t overtake a rider because I brake too early. For a lap it is not a problem, but it will be problem in the race if I am not precise.  The bike is not stable on the brakes and I am not precise on the line entering the corner, “said the former world 125 champion.

And de Angelis says braking is where he needs to dramatically improve as he prepares for this weekend’s three-day IRTA test session in Jerez.

“I was behind Loris (Capirossi) in Sepang earlier this year and he braked very late. If this was in the race it was impossible to pass Loris. Loris was braking many metres later so for overtaking it is impossible. I need to improve this, “said the Gresini Honda rider.
