1 of 6

MCN Sport Editor Michael Guy has a new video series exploring the middleweight adventure bike market. But unlike most bike reviews, once he decides on the best one he buys it with his own money and then sets about adapting it to become the perfect machine for the way he rides.

Episode 1 – Choosing where to start

Michael puts the best of the current crop of new middleweight adventure bikes to the test in a dirtbike shootout to help him choose a donor bike for the project. He starts with a shortlist of the KTM 690 Enduro R, Aprilia Tuareg 660, AJP PR7, Yamaha Ténéré 700 and Honda CRF300 Rally. Find out what he chose and why in this video:

Episode 2 – Making modifications

Once Michael had chosen the starting bike it was time to make his modifications. There’s nothing on the market right now that does everything he wants out of the crate so it’s time to get creative with new parts and upgrades:

Episode 3 – Testing the finished bike

Now the project bike is finished and Michael heads out on the trails for a multi-day trip camping and off roading to see if the bike is all he hoped it would be. Get his thoughts here:
