Tried and tested: Alpinestars Faster V2 review

The Alpinestars Faster V2 is a sporty leather motorbike jacket that pairs protection fit for the track with comfort, practicality and style for the road. It follows the original Faster jacket which offered an affordable entry point to the Italian firm’s leather kit back in 2018.

Tested by Joseph Wright for 6 months and 4500 miles

It’s designed with air flow in mind and uses breathable fabric in non-impact areas (just like MotoGP leathers) and there are zip vents on the upper arms, too.

Overall, the Faster V2 jacket gives you confidence on the road with added comfort over kit aimed more squarely at the track – and it’s cheaper. No, this jacket doesn’t come with a cape but yes it does make me feel like a hero!

Is the Alpinestars Faster V2 jacket comfortable?

The comfort of this jacket is influenced by your motorcycle and your preferred riding position. I’ve found that it has a highly aggressive feel, with a required 45 degree bend in the arm, which gives you the sensation of being a racer on your way to your bike.

However, once you’re on your motorcycle, the firm multi-panel leather keeps you secure and inspires you to ride dynamically. In addition, the mesh in unexposed areas lets you rotate and manoeuvre the motorcycle beneath you.

My only issue with the fit is that the back is too short, which can leave your lower back exposed if you pair the jacket with regular jeans. It seems that this design is intended to encourage the buyer to purchase the V2 leather trousers that match the jacket and connect with a waist zipper. I have to admit, I’m tempted to do so!

Does the Alpinestars Faster V2 jacket look good?

In my opinion, this jacket is factory perfection. The design strikes the perfect balance between sporty and simplistic, making it a versatile choice that looks great on modern bikes as well as retros.

Is the Alpinestars Faster V2 jacket good quality?

Over the course of thousands of miles, I have come to appreciate the exceptional quality and durability of this jacket. It is undoubtedly the most premium item I have ever owned, and I believe that it is capable of withstanding years of regular use. Despite the countless hours spent in the saddle, not a single stitch has come loose, and the jacket continues to look as pristine as the day I acquired it.

The attention to detail in this jacket is impressive. From the high-quality materials used to the precise stitching and construction, every aspect of the design exudes excellence. The jacket’s fit is also impeccable, with every panel and contour expertly crafted to provide both comfort and functionality.

Overall, I have been thoroughly impressed with this jacket’s performance and durability. It has undoubtedly become a prized possession, and I look forward to many more miles in it.

Does the Alpinestars Faster V2 jacket offer good protection?

This sports jacket boasts a flexible elbow armour that extends along the entire length of the forearm, providing ample protection. The shoulder armour is also enclosed in a hard outer slider, which is seamlessly integrated into the jacket’s design and features the Alpine Stars logo.

However, it’s worth noting that this jacket does not come equipped with a back protector, which is a bit disappointing given its price tag of £400. The additional back protector costs £80.

Is the Alpinestars Faster V2 jacket good value?

Alpinestars Faster V2 Arm Zip

Initially, I was sceptical about the high price of this Alpinestars jacket and wondered how much of it was based on the brand name. But the more I wore it, the more I realised its thoughtful design, such as the collar with a soft fabric edge to prevent chafing and air vents that work like MotoGP brake disc scoops funnelling wind into the upper arm to stop you overheating.

While there may be cheaper options available, this jacket offers great value and is ideal for those seeking the ultimate in motorcycle clothing.

The verdict

Alpinestars Faster V2 Shoulder Pad

Overall, the Alpinestars sports jacket is a premium and durable item with exceptional quality and attention to detail. It offers ample protection with flexible elbow and shoulder armour, but lacks a back protector. Its design strikes a balance between sporty and simplistic, making it a versatile choice that looks great on modern and retro bikes alike. Despite its high price, it’s an ideal choice for those seeking the ultimate in motorcycle clothing.
