Win one of ten Harley Davidson Livewire test rides!

The future is here – and it’s a Harley-Davidson!

Do you want to be one of only a thousand UK riders who gets the chance to ride Harley-Davidson’s prototype electric Livewire? We’ve teamed-up with Harley to offer ten MCN readers the chance to grab this one-off chance to ride the naked electric roadster before the bikes are crated up and shipped to the next country in their world tour.

Held at the high-security Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, the test rides will give you the chance to experience the full range of performance from this ground-breaking prototype away from all the usual distractions of road riding. Few could have guessed that Harley-Davidson would turn their focus to the electric sector, and even fewer that they’d effect such a strong bike at their first attempt.

MCN’s Andy Downes tested the Livewire in New York in June last year: “Turn the ignition on, and the dash sparks into life, giving you the choice of ‘Range’ or ‘Power’ modes. Range mode restricts the torque delivery for greater distance capability, while the Power mode gives you everything the 55kW motor can deliver, albeit with a progressive torque delivery to prevent you flipping it away from the lights.

“Once you’ve selected your mode, hold the start button down for two seconds, and LiveWive comes alive. Flip the sidestand up (it won’t let you ride away with it down), and you simply twist and go. There are no clutch or gear levers to distract you, while the front and rear brake levers are in their conventional homes, adding some familiarity to this otherwise alien experience.

“The surge of power as you pull away is instant, and strong. Harley claims a 0-60 of sub four-seconds, and I wouldn’t dispute that at all. It feels fast, and there’s absolutely no question that it’ll have the measure of any conventionally-powered motorcycle in urban use.

“It sounds fantastic, too.”

If you’re one of the lucky few, you will be one of a select group to ride the bike globally, and you’ll have the chance to tell Harley what you think of Livewire – helping to shape their strategy for releasing a full production version of this innovative bike. You’ll also get to let other MCN readers know what you think of the bike, and will get photographs of yourself riding as a memento of your session.
