Yamaha MT-09

Tested by Carl Stevens, Road Tester

Yamaha’s CP3 motor is a thing of beauty. It’s easily one of my favourite engines thanks to its punchy and playful nature, which is why I can’t wait to try it in the utterly beautiful XSR900 GP when it arrives later in the year. I have big plans for long rides on the GP to see if it is the complete package, alongside some track action to see if it has the minerals to back up its gorgeous appearance.

But that will have to wait for a bit as before that I will be checking out the 2024 MT-09 for the first part of the year. I was seriously impressed by the ’09 at its world launch, as it is machine that has truly evolved with every iteration and is now a more complete package than ever, at a very reasonable price. I am keen to see if it is enough of a beast to keep things interesting, and if it really does strike the perfect balance between being fun and sporty without being too aggressively focused.
