The Shoei RYD has officially landed in the UK!

The RYD comes in one step up from the firm’s Qwest entry-level helmet, costing around £50 more at £349.99.

For the extra outlay, the RYD will benefit from a fully removable comfort liner and the most recent Shoei quick-release visor and mounting set-up, which seals more effectively for a quieter and warmer ride.

Shoei’s mission statement for the RYD says it’s aimed at younger riders and those who own streetfighter and naked bikes like Yamaha’s popular MT-07. But the helmet also looks as though it would appeal to riders expecting to cover long distances on a bike.

The RYD has been developed in Shoei’s own wind tunnel for both aerodynamic performance and airflow through the helmet interior. There’s a chin vent to help drag in air around the visor, as well as two brow vents and another pair of outlets at the rear to let warm air escape.

There are recesses in the EPS liner to accommodate speakers for comms systems, although there are additional pads that can be fitted into those recesses for riders not using speakers and who want to damp out more noise.

The visor is protected by the high-spec Pinlock Evo anti-mist insert and the sporty side of its character is reflected in the lack of a dropdown sun visor.

The RYD, which has a composite-fibre shell made from Shoei’s Advanced Integrated Matrix of materials, is on sale now, available in white, grey, orange and matt or gloss black.
