How to set up a Blade exhaust valve

Q. I’m having problems setting up the exhaust valve on my 2003 Blade.

With the ignition on, the index mark on the control valve is not aligning with the horizontal mark on the valve housing and when it moves to the nearly vertical position it doesn’t align with the index mark on the valve housing.

Adjusting either of the cables will bring the valve to the correct position on one of the line up marks to the detriment of the other.

Will the bike be suffering from a power loss with the above settings?

A. The most important mark is the horizontal one that the valve starts at, being slightly out should not affect the power noticeably, although it might make the bike a little noisier.
