Does my Hornet need a Power Commander?

Q. I have a 2008 ABS Honda Hornet which has an Akrapovic megaphone end can fitted. At the moment the bike doesn’t run smoothly at certain points.

Would this need to be fixed by a Power Commander? Or could I just get the standard ECU re-mapped?

A. Unfortunately you can’t easily remap a Honda’s standard fuelling. Only Suzuki offers that facility with the Yosh box that allows you to tweak the fuelling of the standard ECU.

It’s probably going to mean a Power Commander if it only started to play up after you fitted the can. But don’t just bolt one on, go to a decent dyno house with comparative figures for your make and model of bike, then make an informed decision.
