Administrators confirm M&P closures

The administrators dealing with troubled chain M&P have confirmed that half its shops were closed in a sudden move on Friday.

Branches in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Harrow, York, Welwyn Garden City, Stroud and Peterborough are now no longer trading.

The administrators say they have been closed because no-one had shown an interest in buying them since the firm was put into administration.

Shops in Cambridge, Coventry, Northampton, Oxford and Swansea – which is the hub of M&P’s mail order operation – are being kept running while interested parties consider making a move for them.

A spokesman for the administrators, said: " These steps were necessary because there has been no interest in them in the two months they have been in administration. "

The firm has surrendered the lease on the Bridgend branch. Cleckheaton is closed, awaiting sale.

We’ll bring you more as we get it on the position for people who have lodged deposits with the closed branches.
