No more day riding without lights

1 of 1

You will soon have no choice about whether or not to use headlights when riding in daylight.

Bike manufacturers have taken it upon themselves to fit bikes with lights that are automatically switched on when the ignition is on. They claim it’s due to impending legislation, but MCN discovered that there is no law on the table and fear it may be purely a cost-cutting exercise for 2003 bikes.

Jeff Stone, of the BMF – Britain’s biggest bike group – said, ” To the best of our knowledge this issue was dead. There is no conclusive proof that having the headlights permanently on has any safety effect. You can bet that if there was any proof at all, the Euro Parliament would have gone for it already. Riders should be able to decide whether they use lights or not. ”

More on this in MCN, out on WEDNESDAY.
