Fear drives security sales

Initial results of a survey into bike crime conducted through this site suggest the majority of people aren’t using bike security to meet insurance demands, they are doing it because they fear theft.

An initial sample of 100-plus people showed 79 per cent fit security to their bike to beat thieves while only 20 per cent of the survey cited both that and improving their chances of lower insurance premiums.

More than 1000 people clicked through from this site to fill in the Motorcycle Industry Association’s online questionnaire.

Full results will be available in mid-March and are expected to reveal the way people actually have their bikes stolen and whether or not security devices have a genuine impact on reducing bike theft.

It’s the first survey to put the key questions of bike security directly to motorcyclists, according to MCIA researchers.
