Bike Week: Cops cancel leave

1 of 1

Police have cancelled leave and called in 20 extra Highway Patrol state troopers to get tough on traffic enforcement in Daytona Beach during Bike Week, the world’s biggest bike gathering.

They made the decision on Thursday, after the death of one rider in an accident in the city and increasing road traffic problems.

As crowds flock to the city’s Main Street and Atlantic Boulevard hot spots in the evenings, jams are clogging the streets.

There are usually 75 local police on duty in a Bike Week evening. Another 30 will be available from now on.

Police are promising more tickets for speeding, careless riding, loud pipes and other traffic violations.
