Thousands turned out in Hawick in the Scottish borders for the funeral of British Superbike champion Steve Hislop yesterday.

Police estimate 3000-4000 mourners arrived in town to join local people paying tribute. Among those attending were fellow British Superbike rider John Reynolds, former GP and BSB star Niall Mackenzie and 1980s 250cc GP rider Donnie McLeod.

Hawick was brought to a standstill as the funeral cortege, which included 300 bikes, moved through the town centre, before the 13-mile journey to Southdean cemetery, where Hislop was laid to rest at 2.50pm.
