Bikers feel test should include countryside training

1 of 1

Over half of motorcyclists surveyed by insurance company Bennetts feel that the bike test should include specific training on how to ride in the countryside.

And 17% admit that they have had an accident on a rural ride, stating that the main hazards are uneven road surfaces and the lack of visibility caused by hedgerows.

Although only one quarter of casualties occur on rural roads, according to The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, there is a greater number of fatalities. Around 60% of motorcycle deaths occur on non-built up roads.

Despite this, the Bennetts survey revealed only 15% of bikers saw B roads and country environments as the most dangerous place to ride, and 20% feel accidents happen because motorcyclists are pushing themselves too hard on country roads.
