MAD about speed cameras

1 of 1

Motorists Against Detection (MAD) claims its members are responsible for vandalising speed cameras in Norfolk.

” In the whole of the UK there are a couple of hundred active members carrying out attacks of this nature. Around 600 cameras have been attacked in the last couple of years by members of the group. ” said MAD spokesman Captain Gatso.

The group only targets cameras on trunk roads and motorways, where there seems to be no risk to pedestrians, and supports their use in built-up areas. Their methods include plastic explosives, spray paint and angle-grinders. Last August, MAD vandalised 29 cameras on the London North Circular Road in one night.

The organisation running Norfolk’s speed cameras, Norfolk Casualty Reduction Partnership, says the cost of the vandalism is more than £100,000.

” This criminal activity is the work of a tiny minority of irresponsible people who are endangering the lives of the public and it is only a matter of time before they are caught, ” said a Norfolk Police spokeswoman.
