Simple first aid could save lives

1 of 1

A new training scheme has been set up by Lancashire Ambulance Service to train bikers in the basic first aid that could make the difference between life and death in a road traffic accident.

With many bikers riding in groups it is often the case that another rider is the first person on the scene of an accident. Lancashire Ambulance Service set up the ‘First Bike on Scene’ course to give riders the knowledge they need to help keep serious accident victims alive until paramedics arrive.

Paramedic Trainer Andrew Sullivan explained: ” The prognosis of a patient can be greatly enhanced by utilising a few basic first aid techniques. This is a positive move by Lancashire Ambulance Service to equip motorcyclists with the confidence and basic skills to safely manage the scene of an incident and provide the initial stabilisation of an incident. ”

The course will initially be held at Lancashire Ambulance HQ, in Preston, and will cost £60 per person for a day’s tuition, which includes lunch, literature, and a certificate.
