Honda builds new giant

Honda has started construction work on a new bike factory which will produce half as many bikes in a year as there are bike owners in the UK.

The joint venture with the Guangzhou Motors Group Company (Wuyang-Honda) will open the plant in Spring 2006 in China and and churn out up to 700,000 bikes every year. There are around 1,400,000 bike owners in Great Britain.

The new plant will have two assembly lines – an integrated motorcycle/scooter line to be relocated from the existing plant and a new line dedicated to motorcycles.

Wuyang-Honda has made 100 to 125 cc motorcycles and scooters since 1992 and had built 3 million by June 22, 2004.

The company exports to 36 countries – including Japan.
