Crashes: Not our fault!

Police claims that riders are to blame for 75 per cent of the accidents we are involved in have been condemned by a top accident investigator.

Former traffic cop and RoSPA chief examiner Tony Carter says police investigations into accidents are rarely thorough enough and that the reality is that up to 70 per cent of fatal bike accidents are caused by other road users.

His theory is explained in detail in MCN, out on Wednesday July 28.

Our accident investigation also includes insurance firm Bennett’s figures which show the rider was to blame for only 35 per cent of the accidents we are involved in – and the biggest hazard we face is drivers pulling out on us.

Our own survey of motorcyclenews.com users found of those who had been in a crash in the last 12 months 64 per cent had been caused by other road users.
