Cops stop TT-bound bikes

Almost every bike bound for the TT through the Isle of Man ferry terminal at Pier Head, Liverpool, has been checked by police looking for stolen bikes.

The operation has been running since Tuesday and ends this evening (Friday June 4).

Sgt Gary Gray, from Merseyside Police’s Vehicle Crime Group, said: “The operation has been very well received by the motorcycling enthusiasts we’ve met over the three days it has been running. Like us, the motorcycling community are very aware of the impact – both financial and personal – that bike theft can have, and the people we’ve spoken to so far have been happy to spend a few minutes with us whilst we check that their bike is being legitimately driven.”

“Motorcyclists spend a lot of time and money on their bikes and this small amount of time with us allows them to help us ensure that bikes can’t be stolen and used by criminals. I’d like to thank all the motorcyclists for their patience and reassure them that Merseyside Police will continue to do all it can to reduce motorcycle crime in our region.”
