Riding to Silverstone? Cops are watching

1 of 1

Northants police and their Safety Camera Team buddies are going to be all over the roads leading to Silverstone for this Sunday’s British superbikes opener. At least they’ve warned us.

They say they’ll be in action on both Saturday and Sunday (March 27 and 28).

Sgt Jon Hodgson, from the Safety Camera Team, said: ” This is part of our year-long Operation Biker. It includes a range of education, engineering and enforcement initiatives, all aimed at improving road safety for motorcyclists.

” While we know that motorcyclists are by no means always to blame for the collisions they are involved in, we have collected various speed data involving 5,774 motorcyclists and found that 51 per cent were exceeding the speed limit. Sixteen per cent were riding at between 80mph and 139mph on roads with 60mph speed limits.

” Clearly for the safety of everyone, speed should be kept for the race track and not our roads. ”
