Cameras swoop on M4

1 of 1

Watch out if you drive down the M4 between Reading and Bristol or you could end up the victim of a new low-tolerance speed camera regime.

The section of the M4 between junction 14 and 18 will now be monitored by a selection of mobile camera vans set to catch you if you stray as little as 9mph over the 70mph limit. Most motorway cameras are set with 85mph as the trigger speed.

The new regime has been brought in by Wiltshire & Swindon Safety Camera Partnership, which claims it is to reduce the number of accidents on the road.

But motorways are known to be the safest type of road in the country and the majority of accidents are caused by driver error, such as driving too close, rather than simply excessive speed.
