3000 mile charity ride

Motorcyclist Jonathan Formstone will begin a 3000-mile ride around the coastline of Britain on Sunday February 27, 2005, to raise money for Tsunami victims.

Formstone, 29, will raise cash for the United Nations Children’s Fund and was inspired in part by the travels of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman on The Long Way Round TV show. Boorman has sent a personal message of support, while Hein Gericke has supplied head-to-toe clothing and heated handlebar grips.

Hein Gericke has also placed UNICEF collection boxes in each of its 43 stores, and Formstone will visit 13 branches on his route around the country. He’ll be riding a Yamaha TDM900 loaned to him by local dealership Petite & France, and upon completion, will collect all the money raised by Hein Gericke staff and customers from all 43 shops.

“I wanted to contribute to the UNICEF Appeal because children are the ones that suffer most,” said Formstone. “I’m very grateful for the industry backing I have received and hope that my fellow bikers find it in their heart to call in to one of the stores and support me in my venture.”

If you wish to donate or get involed, contact your local Hein Gericke store.
