Motorcyclenews.com has been named the best consumer magazine website in the country in the publishing industry’s equivalent of the Oscars.

The site was named the Interactive Consumer Magazine of the Year ahead of an impressive short-list which included Vogue, The Radio Times, FHM and Empire.

The judges praised motorcyclenews.com’s passionate editorial, lively forums, cracking classified ads – and the way the whole site integrates to meet the needs of our users.

“motorcyclenews.com has done a great job of… engaging its audience, creating a strong community with busy forums,” according to the judging panel.

Joanna Lumley presented the award – sponsored by galleonCI – to motorcyclenews.com Editor David Cushman at London’s Grosvenor House on Wednesday night.

Cushman said: “This award is about as big as it gets for us. But please don’t think that means we’ll be resting on our laurels. We are committed to a constantly improving site – and there are two important new elements being added within the next two months.

“We hope they will make the site even more compelling for the 275,000 (and rising) unique visitors we attract every month.”

There were a record-breaking 900-plus entries across all categories of the annual PPA Awards this year. The PPA (Periodical Publishers Association) is made up of almost 400 publishing companies which publish more than 2250 magazines between them.

Britain’s No1 bike site received a certificate for being shortlisted in the Association of Online Publisher’s ‘integration of media’ award and won Emap Automotive’s Best Brand Extension award in 2004. It was also highly commended in the Website of the Year category in the 2004 Emap Consumer Magazine awards.

The site was highly commended by the PPA in 2002 and won Best New Launch and Best Design in the dedicated PPA(interative) awards the previous year.
