35-year theft solved

1 of 1

A stolen motorcycle will be returned to its American owner this week – 35 years after it was taken.

The 1970 Yamaha went missing in 1971, but resurfaced on an online auction site in 2005. When it was won by a Finnish bidder, the vehicle identification number turned up in the database of the National Insurance Crime Bureau during the shipping process. Police in Long Beach, California, still had the original theft report, and traced original owner Phillip McKeen.

Neither the current seller or buyer were suspected of any wrongdoing. And the Yamaha still has just 9380 miles on the mileometer.
