Northampton Council are "speed obsessed"

I have the pleasure of living in the Northampton area – a council more obsessed with speed I challenge you to find; where renegade stickers welcoming people to the “Home of the Stealth Tax” can be found on camera signs and cameras, stickers deployed by reasonable, rational people who are completely tired of this obsession.
This council is that fixated with the fact that supposedly “speed kills”, as opposed to poor driving and road design/layout that kills (e.g. still they build more new houses without giving any thought to the impact on the local road infrastructure) that they litter the A roads around here with signs proclaiming dubious statistics about injuries and fatalities on the particular stretch of road; let’s face it any stretch of road will have statistics.

These signs have appeared on the A508 and more recently have been erected on a stretch of the A43 between Kettering and Northampton. The new ‘safety’ street furniture is so prolific that accidents will be caused by riders/drivers trying to observe these signs displaying statistics rather than concentrating on the road ahead. Not to mention the greater probability that where a motorbike is involved in an accident there is so much more signage to come into collision with – how does this qualify for effective road safety?

Finally, the council is clearly more content to spend money on spurious road signage than fix the dreadful road surfaces in the county. Within a mile of where I live there is a vast hole in the road, which has been there for months (happy to supply a picture), which would have any 2 wheel road user off their chosen mode of transport in a second – hardly contributing to road safety.

In short – Northampton – get your priorities right!
