Derbyshire Police own up over sneaky speed camera

1 of 1

Police in Derbyshire have confessed to using this sneaky new speed camera van to target motorcyclists.

The force originally denied claims from a force insider of a “workman’s van” speed camera used to target motorcyclists.

But when presented with this picture, taken by an eagle eyed MCN reader, the force admitted: “We have a number of routes that we have high motorcycle casualties on… That’s really what the van has been done for.”

Sgt Andy Carmichael, from the force’s road policing unit, claimed it was “merely” painted a different colour rather than disguised as anything in particular – despite the GB sticker on the back.

Sgt Andy Carmichael admitted the hatch in the rear window of the van slides open to reveal a speed camera.
