Hundreds wrongly convicted of speeding

Three police workers face disciplinary action after 545 motorists were wrongly convicted of speeding.

Fines totalling £35,000 had to be refunded, 1,500 penalty points quashed and 2115 tickets cancelled because cameras were wrongly calibrated and paperwork incorrectly processed.

A Lancashire camera operator and two admin officers face disciplinary hearings over charges of misconduct during the 12 months to last August.

Naseem Malik, IPCC Commissioner for the North West, said: “Concerns over the work of these individuals has resulted in a number of convictions having to be overturned.

“Once the disciplinary panels have been held, the IPCC will issue further details about the findings of the investigations.”
