Dainese airbag gets first MotoGP test

Jorge Lorenzo became the first ever MotoGP racer to test Dainese’s D-Air airbag technology in anger at this weekend’s Brno MotoGP.

The Fiat Yamaha rider was dicing with team-mate Valentino Rossi for the lead when he lost the front with five laps remaining, falling directly on to his shoulder and tumbling through the gravel.

Strangely, his airbag seemed not to deflate as intended, although by this point getting back on the bike was out of the question.

The first street version of the airbag technology for road riders is due in Dainese stores next year.
