Avon celebrate World Championship winning custom bike

Bike builder Dave Cook has seen his ‘Rambler’ crowned as this year’s World Champion machine, and Avon tyres are celebrating this because the bike is fitted with Avon Cobra tyres.

The 2009 AMD World Championship Of Bike Building took place recently in Sturgis, South Dakota and it was Cook’s amazing machine – shod with Avon’s Cobra tyres – which took top honours.

Each of the votes cast for the winner, come from the other entrants themselves and it was ‘Rambler’ which scored highest.

Dave Cook’s creation beat 82 other motorcycles lovingly constructed by their owners for the competition, which is in its fifth year. Dave said: “This is truly a dream come true.

“I have dedicated the best part of the last three years trying to win the World Championship, and finally I have achieved the ultimate recognition of my fellow professionals.”

The 51-year-old runs Cook Custom Choppers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has only been a full-time specials builder since 2002. This win makes him the first American to take the prestigious award.

Cook’s ‘Rambler’ features a 550cc engine, with a much-modified four-speed BMW R75 gearbox.

The frame, forks and swingarm are all custom made by Dave himself, while the tyres are 21-inch Avon Cobras.
