Wool covered motorbike

1 of 4

Inspired by a chapter in Dick Hebdige’s ‘Hiding in the Light’ I bought a motorcycle with the intention to use it in my Fine Art degree show this year.

As I was interested in gender I ended up wrapping this Chinese 125 in brightly coloured wool and knitted wool. Before this I had never picked up a set of knitting needles and it has been challenging learning how to knit over the last 4 months!

It has taken 3 months in total to cover – with the odd experienced knitters helping along the way!

The main concept is about stereotypes: a female intervention on a masculine icon. My motorbike will be exhibited next month, followed by another show shortly after at the Greyladyes Arts Foundation.
