The Crumbling Relics Tour 2010

1 of 3

The Crumbling Relics Tour 2010 is a 5-6000 mile solo charity motorcycle ride around the coastline of mainland Britain, with the aim of visiting as many historical sites as possible.

Castles, standing stones, burial mounds and any ancient ruins will be sought out and photographed.

I am an ex-pat Brit living in Arizona, the wrong side of 50,which may or may not have some bearing on the title of the project.

I have few contacts left in Britain, so am asking the motorcycling community for their help.

I am indebted to Peter Coulson of Siserve Ltd., who has offered me the use of his Victory Vision.

The tour will start from Freedom Motorcycles in March, Cambridgeshire, on their Open Day, Sunday June 6th, 2010.

From there it is a short hop to the coast of East Anglia, and the tour can begin in earnest, heading clockwise to ride on the seaward side of the road.

The route and timing is intended to be flexible to a point, and should be thought of like a railway timetable, more a suggestion than a finite reality.

The aim is to raise as much money as possible before, during, and after the trip for Rainbow Trust children’s charity.

Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity provides practical and emotional support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness.

Rainbow Trust’s Family Support Workers join the family in their own home and are there to provide practical support.

We are contactable 24 hours a day for families in crisis from diagnosis, through treatment and even after bereavement.

Businesses/individuals are invited to sponsor the trip in order to make it the success I know it can be.

Sponsorship can be in the form of money to help offset the costs of the trip, or by loan/donation of equipment/services needed to complete the trip.

In the event that more money is raised than needed, all surplus after the costs have been paid will be donated to Rainbow Trust.

Any equipment donated rather than loaned will be auctioned/raffled at the end of the journey with all proceeds going to Rainbow Trust.

What is needed is listed below.

Insurance/roadside cover for the bike
Fuel–no more than 4-5 gallons/day
Accommodation Camping equipment–it’s Britain in June so you never know! Protective clothing/helmet.
A reliable mobile phone for 4-5 weeks

Sponsors will be listed, with links to their websites.

Names/logos will also appear on all advertising/press releases both before and during the tour.

Most importantly, of course, sponsors are vital to the success of the trip, thus enabling me to raise much-needed funds for Rainbow Trust.

If you, or anyone you know, can help with these items it will go a long way to ensuring the success of this venture.

Please contact me using the contact page — all emails will be answered. Anyone requesting anonymity will obviously have their wishes respected.

I understand that times are hard–that makes it doubly hard for charities. This is the first rough draft of the proposed route.

It is subject to change as each leg is researched or people give me ideas.

I have set a few rules:

1. Stay as close to the coast as possible

2. No motorways unless I have no choice

3. Use ferries rather than bridges where available

I welcome any ideas regarding places to visit, stay etc.
