EU anti-tampering measures would make me a prisoner in my own home

I’ve been riding bikes since the mid ’70s and for most of my life my work has been manual labour. After 30 years of this all the heavy lifting rendered me disabled – with two worn vertebrae.

I’m unable to sit in cars due to the vertical position and lumbar bars in seats aggravating my condition. I currently ride a ’97 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport as it is the only motorcycle I know that I’m comfortable on due to it’s size (I’m 6’4″)and reclined riding position (I use a baglux tank bag with a washing up bowl in the lower bag to support me). I need crutches to get on and off the machine.

I have tried other machines but they are not as comfortable for me due to either an upright or cramped position.

I had to have a repair done to my machine recently which cost nearly £1000 whichi involved a difficult 100 mile round trip, and hanging round all day waiting for the work to be done feeding myself maximum pain killers.

Three months later I have the same fault recurring and the back box seal blowing out oil due to overfilling by the dealer (this seal was replaced by me two months before they had it).

I believe I could have done the work with help from a friend in about a week, taking regular rests and am confident that I would have done a better job.

Legislation preventing me servicing my machine would make me a prisoner in my own home as public transport in my village is not available when I need it and as it would require riding in a taxi it would leave me incapable of doing necessary tasks.
