Win tickets to BSB at Silverstone

The first event of the final three round MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship Showdown at Donington Park produced a pair of dramatic races as John Hopkins claimed a double win to take the lead in the overall standings by just three points and you could be at the next round at Silverstone on raceday (25 September) courtesy of Fuchs Silkolene, title sponsor of the British Supersport Championship.

Britain’s Tommy Hill on the Swan Yamaha had held the advantage ahead of the first Showdown round, but a third and second place finish last time out dropped him to second in the standings and after missing out last season he is determined to not let it happen again.

Former double champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne had been the title leader in the Main Season, but he failed to score a single podium last time out. In the first race he finished fourth and then dramatically crashed out following a first lap tangle with fellow Title Fighter Michael Laverty. A gritty performance saw him work his way back up the order to salvage eighth place however he is 25 points adrift of the title lead and knows that nothing but wins will be enough at Silverstone.

Like Byrne, Laverty needs to close the deficit; he trails the HM Plant Honda rider ahead of him in the standings by 11 points, but the Swan Yamaha rider was on the podium at Donington Park so knows he has the pace to be a contender for the two wins here.

Laverty is separated by just two points from Josh Brookes in fourth place as last year’s title runner-up continues his quest to go one better, this time with Relentless Suzuki by TAS, but it is defending champion Ryuichi Kiyonari who is currently the last of the six Title Fighters on the second of the HM Plant Hondas.

The stage is set for two epic BSB races but don’t forget that there are also a host of supporting races including the Fuchs Silkolene British Supersport Championship, which has produced some of the closest battle of the season between Ben Wilson and Alastair Seeley.
