Yamaha boss: 'We’ll use the expertise we’ve acquired from robots for our motorcycles'

We reported last October that Yamaha were using a robot rider to develop new safety technology.

Now company President Hiroyuki Yanagi has revealed the new systems may draw on artificial intelligence jointly developed with a US research body to allow these ‘humanoids’ to ride bikes.

“We want to facilitate driving operations of our motorcycles and reduce the burden on riders to allow them to pay more attention to safety,” Yanagi said.

The idea is to make bikes easier and safer to ride.

“We’ll use the expertise we’ve acquired from robots for our motorcycles,” Yanagi added. “We’ll promote the development of technologies to make motorcycle driving easier.”

Yamaha are yet to confirm when to put the AI-based technologies to use on road bikes.
