Video: The time Freddie Spencer took on a car and Honda VF700S

Today marks the 55th birthday of 500cc Grand Prix legend Freddie Spencer, who won the 500cc championship in 1983 and both the 250cc and 500cc world titles in 1985.

‘Fast Freddie’ is regarded as one of the best racers from the early ’80s, and is the only rider to take the 500 and 250 championships in the same season.

To mark Spencer’s birthday we dug around on Youtube for his race against a Honda VF700S and Nissan 300ZX Turbo at the iconic Laguna Seca circuit in1984.

Freddie gives the car a 30 second head start, and the bike a 15 second head start but still beats them both with ease.

Happy birthday Freddie!
