The mother of the teenager, caught by Tom Hardy on suspicion of motorcycle theft, has revealed her son has ‘mental health’ problems.

After the dramatic arrest by the Hollywood actor, the mum-of-three expressed she was ‘relieved’ that her 16-year-old was brought to justice as her son could now seek the ‘effective treatment’ required for his condition.

“This isn’t a scummy, naught child,” she told The Mirror. “People with mental health issues need support and cry out for help in many different ways.”

On Sunday, Hardy was praised for his assistance in apprehending one of two young men who were allegedly involved in a motorcycle theft in Richmond, London.

Two 16 year olds were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle following the incident.

Hardy stepped in after the two teens crashed into a car damaging a £50,000 Mercedes and fleeing the scene.

A Richmond Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that there were two people on a stolen moped that went through a red light and crashed into another vehicle.

“The males ran off and one was detained by Tom Hardy.

“Both suspects were initially taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”

As Hardy caught one of the youths, after chasing him through gardens and across a building site, he was heard saying “I caught the c**t”. The 39-year-old then started patting the teenager down for weapons.

The two suspects reportedly remain in police custody and have been arrested on suspicion of numerous motoring offences, including taking a vehicle without consent and theft of a motor vehicle.

Hardy is known for his roles in blockbuster films such as The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max, The Revenant and Inception.
