Watch: KTM & AMA champ break Pikes Peak record

KTM have released a video of AMA superbike rider, Chris Fillmore tackling the Pikes Peak International Hill climb last weekend in Colorado.

Riding a 2017 KTM Super Duke 1290 R, the American would go on to finish in first position in the heavyweight motorcycle class and fifth overall – breaking a world record in the process too with a new outright lap record of 9:49:265. All in his rookie year at the climb.

The 20km race, which features 156 corners, takes place on the highest summit (14,000 feet) of the southern front range in the Rocky Mountains. It’s got a fearsome reputation and draws global attention as competitors race up the dangerous road which has sadly claimed many victims.

Guy Martin also famously tackled the climb in 2014 aboard a 320hp, turbocharged Martec-framed GSX-R1100 that he built himself, winning in his class and finishin 21st overall, despite having the bike having problems throughout the event.
