Speedway comes to MCN Festival!

This year’s Carole Nash MCN Festival of Motorcycling includes an official round of the UK Speedway Championships for the first time, as Peterborough Panthers host Newcastle Diamonds and the round is free for campers.

If you’ve never witnessed a speedway race then you’re definitely in for a treat! The teams use 500cc single-cylinder machines that run on methanol. They have only one gear. Oh yeah, and no brakes. Even with just one gear and such a small track they can reach speeds of up to 80mph. Without brakes the riders have to powerslide through the corners at full lock.

The match up is the sixth round of Peterborough’s 2017 campaign and the first meeting between the two teams this year. The Panthers are currently fifth in the 10-team table, with Newcastle ninth after four rounds. It may be early in the season but both teams have everything to play for!

Festival campers get in to see the speedway as part of their weekend pass, tickets for day visitors will be available to purchase on the gate for an additional £16.

Camping is a great way to experience all that the Festival has to offer. Campers gain early access into the show, have the opportunity to be the first to sign up for test rides and bag a bargain, plus there’s some great evening entertainment for those who stay all weekend. Yamaha will be hosting the MT Dark Side Party on both Friday and Saturday evening with plenty of live music to get the party in full swing.

The Carole Nash MCN Festival of Motorcycling takes place at the East of England Arena. Head to www.mcnfestival.com for more info.
