Swinton Insurance and BikeFest South have teamed up to launch the Young Biker of the Year competition to promote safety skills among young motorcyclists.

The competition will see participants complete a skills and safety course at the BikeFest South event, held at Goodwood on June 11, during which they will be judged by an IAM Roadsmart assessor. Details of the competition are being kept under wraps, but the course will involve on road riding skills, slow speed handling, and a highway code test.

There are prizes for male and female heat winners in three age groups, and the overall winner will walk away with a two week biking trek in Peru, one year’s free insurance from Swinton, a free IAM Roadsmart course and VIP entry to BikeFest South 2018. Heat winners will receive a £100 voucher from Helmet City, a free IAM Roadsmart course and discounted insurance from Swinton.

BSB star Bradley Ray will be at the show to present the prizes.

Peter Smith, event director of BikeFest South, the competition organisers’, said: “Almost half of motorcycle accidents involve riders under the age of 30, even though they make up just 15% of bikers. This competition will celebrate safe young riders. If you think you’ve got what it takes enter and you’ll be in with a chance to winning some fantastic prizes and pick up safety skills which could save your life.”
