Last call for Manx GP marshals: Sign up now to help out on the Island

Organisers of the currently-running Manx GP road racing festival on the Isle of Man have said it’s not too late to be a volunteer marshal at this year’s event.

“Whether it’s your first time visiting the Manx Grand Prix, or you’ve been following the racing for decades, you’ll be made very welcome,” TT Marshals Association Chairman, Jane Corlett said.

“You can rest assured you’ll be looked after by the Chief Sector Marshal and teamed up with an experienced marshal to learn the ropes. There are opportunities around the course to suit all interests, backgrounds and levels of experience.”

Although qualifying started on Sunday, August 21 – and racing is due to to take place on Friday, Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday – there’s still time to register as a volunteer and get involved around the 37.73-mile mountain course.

“You don’t need to do every practice and race session, but every one you can do really does help,” Corlett continued. “You’ll gain a new set of skills for free as well as joining a community that often turn into lifelong friends.”

Following a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the online system for volunteers to join the TT registration Marshals Association, which covers both the Isle of Man TT races in June and the Manx GP at the end of August, re-opened in updated form back in February.

However, volunteers are still needed – especially from those already on the Island. Interested parties need to sign-up online and complete two new, online training modules which take approximately 20 minutes each.

“There’s nothing to stop people signing-on on the day,” a spokesman for the TTMA told MCN. “However, they will need to complete the two online modules prior to going out on the course.

“This can be done on their own device, or if they’re unable to access a device to do the training, the TTMA have a training hut that will be open on-event from 2pm-4pm.”

Alternatively, if you marshalled at the TT this year, you will have already completed the online modules so simply need to log-in and sign on for the sessions you are available for.
