Chester Harley-Davidson honour WWII flying ace in latest custom

1 of 8

Following the interest in their 2008 Dakar inspired KTM 890 Adventure, Chester KTM/Harley Davidson have turned their creative talents to produce a limited-edition Harley-Davidson Pan America.

The dealership has once again partnered with graphic specialists FMG of Manchester and this time taken inspiration from the iconic P47 Thunderbolt flown during WWII.

Specifically, the yellow and black livery is taken from the plane flown by American flying ace, Lt Glenn Eagleston who completed almost 100 combat missions over Europe during the war.

Fraser Barsby, Head of Marketing at the Little Stanney showroom, explains the process and the changes that were made from the original aeroplane decals.

“I prepared an initial mock up and we worked through about five drafts before we were both happy with the design.

“What was interesting was that we had to replace the skull with wings as it was too reminiscent of the Hells Angels Deaths Head. But I think the Winning Hand works really well,” he said.

The bike features yellow tipped front forks as a nod to the yellow tipped propellors and the squadron number running down the side front fairing. Panniers matching the livery are also available to complete the look.

The bike will be available for a few months until, as Fraser says, “we come up with something new” with their sights set on a custom Sportster model.

One-of-a-kind KTM 890 Adventure Dakar unveiled by UK dealer

KTM 890 Adventure Dakar

Chester KTM has released a very limited edition KTM 890 Adventure that harks back to the golden era of the Dakar Rally.

The unique livery has been designed with Manchester based graphic specialists FMG to create a homage to the original 990 Super Adventure from 2008.

Fraser Barsby, Head of Marketing at the Little Stanney showroom, was instrumental in its creation, he said: “For me especially, this iconic bike has always stirred my more adventurous emotions.

“At the time I was driving and filming a number of expeditions around the Sahara in my Land Rover Defender and a day wouldn’t pass that I dreamed of how amazing the routes I was driving would be on the back of a bike.

“The Long Way Round was still fresh in my mind and the dunes were filled with dirty bikers with sandy smiles and oil under their fingernails.”

More than a decade later, and in what he describes as his “dream job” Barsby couldn’t resist the chance to re-visit his dream and share it with like-minded “dune-hooligans”.

This bike is exclusive to Chester KTM and only five will be available, with one already pre-sold and another in Barsby’s garage.

Just five Dakars will be available

The bike comes complete with heavy duty hand guards, a one-piece seat and the full graphics kit for £10,999. The price also includes the full tech pack costing over £750.
