Retro race aces: Royal Enfield race series heads to Europe

Royal Enfield’s one-make race series is making its way to Europe after Enfield’s French importer, SIMA, kicked off their own racing series.

Enfield had previously announced the Continental GT Cup in India last year but at the time there were no plans to expand it. A similar ‘Build Train Race’ programme has also been run in the US, as a support series at select rounds of AMA.

The idea behind the series is to create low-cost racing that’s all about the skill of the rider, not the depth of their pockets. In the French competition, riders take a stock Continental GT and bolt on a racing pack which includes: uprated suspension, bellypan, front fairing, case and lever guards, new clip ons and a pair of Remus pipes.

The whole lot is worth over £2500 but they supply it for £1600 to make it easier to get in. Registration for the series is £160, plus £250 a weekend, or you can do the whole series for £1250. Which just begs the question, when is it coming here?
