One very lucky winner has walked away with a new Yamaha R7, worth £8200, and a stack of  Genuine Yamaha Racing Technology accessories to enjoy, too.

Paul McDougall, 60, from Essex, picked his bike up from Alpha Motorcycles in Leigh-on-Sea recently and was overjoyed. The Kawasaki GTR1400 owner said: “I entered the competition before Christmas and had forgotten all about it. I was in Spain on holiday and got the email. I thought ‘is this right?’

“It was a huge surprise. I used to ride sportsbikes, but gave them up. I thought this’d be nice for trackdays, so I thought I’d try the competition.

The Yamaha R7 has plenty of rivals in the real-world sportsbike class

“I still prefer my GTR1400 for riding with my wife, but the R7 will be a lot of fun for trackdays and I’m hoping to improve my riding skills.”

The sporty R7, based on the frame and motor found in the hugely popular and punchy MT-07,  has proved a big hit this year with strong UK sales. MCN tester Michael Neeves gave the machine a glowing report.

He said: “The R7 is sporty, friendly and with a voracious appetite for corners, making it the perfect machine for new riders to start their sportsbike journey. In fact, the Yamaha R7 neatly proves you don’t always need lots of power and tech to enjoy yourself”.

Now Paul can enjoy his new R7’s nimble nature for himself.
